The Hatcher Group provided media outreach for the Nov. 17 release of Unlocking Unemployment Opportunity for Previously Incarcerated Persons in the District of Columbia by the Council for Court Excellence. The report, which found massive unemployment among those with criminal records, received extensive media coverage, including stories in the Washington Post and by the Associated Press.
Job Creation Initiative Launch
November 2011
The Hatcher Group helped launch the Big Ideas for Job Creation initiative, coordinating a panel discussion Nov. 8, designing and releasing an issues brief, and creating a new website. The Big Ideas project promotes practical, sustainable, scalable job creation ideas that can be adopted by state and local governments. To read the report, click here.

The Hatcher Group coordinated media-outreach for the Oct. 13 release of Plan for a New Future: The Impact of Social Security Reform on People of Color by the Commission to Modernize Social Security. The report argues that Social Security reform efforts must consider the impact on a population that is projected to be “majority-minority” by 2042. To read the press release click here.

The Hatcher Group assisted in the release of A New Day for the Anacostia by DC Appleseed. More than 100 people attended a launch event in Washington, D.C. Speakers included Mayor Vincent C. Gray, Rep. Eleanor Holmes Norton and top officials at the Interior Department and EPA. Media coverage included a front page Metro section story in the Washington Post.
Hill Briefing
March 2011
On March 30, The Hatcher Group helped organize a Capitol Hill briefing for The Wallace Foundation on school leadership. A panel of experts delivered valuable information on the importance of principal preparation, leadership and how federal policy can help states and districts to improve principal performance, retain excellent teachers and use public dollars more effectively.
Policy Report Release
February 2011
On February 25, The Hatcher Group helped the Coalition on Human Needs release a report nationally and in 13 states comparing the two visions for the future laid out in the President’s budget for FY 2012 and the House proposal for the rest of FY 2011. The Hatcher Group helped write, edit and design the report.
