Attracting Birds and Broadcasters at Camden Yards

June 02, 2016

The National Wildlife Federation is America’s largest conservation organization inspiring Americans to protect wildlife for our children’s future.

When the Federation’s Mid-Atlantic Regional Center and the National Aquarium, decided to join forces with the Baltimore Orioles and the Maryland Stadium Authority to dedicate a new, native plant garden at Camden Yards, they called on The Hatcher Group for public relations support.

The Hatcher Group worked with the Federation and the Orioles to develop messaging and media materials to attract coverage. The garden dedication event took place on a sunny spring day and was a home run—all of the major Baltimore television channels attended the event as well as key environmental reporters.

The Hatcher Group also secured an op-ed in The Baltimore Sun. Thanks to outreach from the Orioles staff, sports media outlets such as MASN.com also covered the event.

“It was great to work with The Hatcher Group on this project,” said Jen Mihills, Associate Director of the National Wildlife Federation Mid-Atlantic Regional Center. “Their team approach and creativity generate extraordinary outcomes.”

The Oriole Garden, which has already begun to attract orioles, other local birds and butterflies, is part of the National Wildlife Federation’s Grow Together Baltimore program. The program works with local communities to create vibrant green spaces that benefit Baltimore residents in many ways.

“Establishing wildlife-friendly green spaces across Baltimore benefits everyone-from kids who will enjoy greater connections with nature and safer places to play, to families that will benefit from cleaner water, and wildlife that will have improved habitat,” said Collin O’Mara, president and CEO of the National Wildlife Federation.
