BALTIMORE - A coalition of leading Baltimore organizations will host the Sept. 19 screening of "Waging a Living: Opportunities for Action," a compelling documentary that takes an in-depth look at the struggles of three low-wage workers trying to make ends meet. The film focuses on America's education, job training and health care systems, and provides resources and recommendations to engage communities and policy-makers.

U.S. Congressman Elijah Cummings will host the event, with WBAL investigative reporter Jayne Miller serving as moderator for a panel discussion following the film.

"This film is a perfect spring-board to spark discussions around the challenges facing low-income working families in our state," Jason Perkins-Cohen, Executive Director of the Jobs Opportunity Task Force, said. "Panelists from the health care, business and workforce development industries will focus on specific actions needed to improve the lives of families who are working hard but finding that the American Dream is still out of reach."

The screening is open to the public and the media and is especially geared toward policy organizations and lawmakers to help improve the lives of Maryland's low-income working families.

"Waging a Living: Opportunities for Action" is a 26-minute policy version of the acclaimed PBS documentary "Waging a Living." The full-length film will air on Maryland Public Television on Thursday, September 28, 2006 at 9p.m.

The "Waging a Living: Opportunities for Action" project was funded by the Annie E. Casey Foundation and the Ford Foundation.
