Project My Time to Double in Size This Fall from Five to 10 Middle Schools
continued...

A working group with representatives from the Trust, DPR, DCPS and CBOs will work to ensure integrated oversight and to refine program elements. Eventually, a steering committee will guide the entire DCPS OST system. An advisory committee will lend resources and knowledge. In addition, each school will have a local committee to discuss the particular needs of the after-school programs at the site.

The Trust and Project My Time will support this District-wide strategy in the following ways:

  • The Trust will hire 10 “cluster coaches” who will oversee operations of the 10 middle school sites and provide guidance, technical assistance and monitoring of provider quality for several DCPS after-school sites in their “cluster.” These coaches will play a critical role in advancing standards of provider quality. They also will assist the after-school coordinators to create a highly effective program model. The coaches will be Trust employees, but will report to the steering committee with their observations and data gleaned from site visits.

  • The Trust will assist in ongoing training of DCPS after-school coordinators, site assistants, teachers and coaches involved in after-school programming at all 120 sites. This summer, the Trust will offer an intensive institute, with training centered on the Advancing Youth Development curriculum. Then, cluster coaches and Trust trainers will continue to provide professional development for DCPS after-school staff throughout the school year.

  • The Trust will provide training, technical assistance, capacity building and leadership development for chosen CBOs operating throughout the DCPS system, in accordance with the Trust OST Standards and a jointly developed vetting process.

  • The Trust, in coordination with DCPS, will conduct ongoing surveys and focus groups with students, parents, school administration, providers and school staff to inform planning and improve programs and service delivery.

  • Participation, enrollment and attendance will be tracked by Trust-funded providers across OST programs to meet joint DCPS-Trust standards, in coordination with the DCPS Stars database system and the Trust’s Webstars system.

  • The Trust, DCPS and other OST partners will develop and implement a citywide campaign to promote the value of OST programs.

  • Cluster coaches will participate in local-level committees to solicit feedback about program operations and create synergy between the school day and after-school programs with support from their communities, schools, providers and students.
