CASE STUDIES
SUCCESS OF A STRATEGIC RELEASE:
THE "UNLOCKING AMERICA" REPORT
The Hatcher Group helped the JFA Institute, a nonprofit organization focused on criminal justice, release its report, “Unlocking America: Why and How to Reduce America’s Prison Population.” The aggressive strategy included an event at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C., attended by more than 120 policymakers, advocates, and journalists. The event was covered live by C-SPAN, and also by CNN, CBS, Reuters, the New York Times and National Public Radio. Stories also ran in international media outlets.
The Hatcher Group worked closely with the JFA Institute to develop message points, identify the audience and create the invitation lists, write the report’s executive summary, and create a variety of materials distributed at the Press Club event. The Hatcher Group scheduled additional interviews for the authors after the event.
"SIPPING FUEL AND SAVING LIVES" - A PIVOTAL REPORT ON FUEL ECONOMY AND SAFETY
The Hatcher Group worked with the Hewlett Foundation and the International Council on Clean Transportation to release a new report on fuel economy and safety. The release came at a critical time when Congress was considering changing the nation’s vehicle fuel economy requirements, known as Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFE) standards. The report concluded that new technologies permit fuel economy standards to be increased significantly without compromising vehicle safety. The Hatcher Group produced an executive summary of the report, managed well-attended policy briefings for Congressional staff, arranged meetings for the report authors with key Congressional offices, and managed a major release event for media and advocacy groups. The momentum proved successful when Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) cited the report several times on the Senate floor the following week, demonstrating her support for raising CAFE standards.
