Laura Hayes

Laura served as communications director for the U.S. Senate Finance Committee, Democratic staff. In that role, she developed media strategies on a wide variety of public policy issues including health care, welfare, tax policy and international trade. She also served as Committee spokesperson and speech writer for the committee’s ranking member, U.S. Senator Max Baucus of Montana. Before joining the Finance Committee, Laura worked as deputy communications director in Sen. Baucus’s personal office. She also has extensive campaign experience, working in various capacities on U.S. Senate races in both 2000 and 2002.

 

Prior to her Senate career, Laura worked as a legislative assistant responsible for health care, education, and welfare issues for former Congressman Bill Luther. In 2003, Laura served as a board member of the Children’s Fund, a small nonprofit organization that works on child development projects in the United States and abroad. She has volunteered as a mentor through Everybody Wins, an organization that provides tutoring for inner-city elementary students in Washington, D.C.

 

Laura is originally from Colorado and holds a bachelor’s degree in English and political science from the University of Colorado.
