Helping all families achieve financial security

The richest nation in the world is not doing enough to help its most vulnerable citizens.

  • 46.7 million people live in poverty.
  • The number of poor children grew by 18 percent between 2008 and 2014.
  • Nearly half (47 percent) of children age five or younger live in low-income families.

Millions of Americans with stable jobs and middle-class incomes also struggle to achieve economic opportunity. Nearly half lack the savings to live at the poverty level for just three months if they lose a job or suffer another income loss. And the top 0.1 percent of earners owns about as much wealth as the bottom 90 percent combined.

The Hatcher Group supports clients working to break the cycle of poverty and increase economic opportunity through improvements in education, job training and health care; by providing access to important tax credits, stable housing and nutritious food; and by reigning in predatory lending practices that prevent low-income families from moving up the economic ladder.
