Expanding access to care for all

Far too many Americans lack access to good, affordable health care. While we have made progress in recent years, statistics paint a sobering picture of remaining disparities in our health care system. According to recent data from the National Center for Health Statistics:

  • The average African-American male lives five years less than the average white American male.
  • 35.7 million Americans remain uninsured.
  • Nearly 20 percent of U.S. adults have “no usual source” of health care.

Many low-income communities have been marginalized by our health care system, with poor access to primary care and specialized services. Many people face major challenges in getting the regular care they need, especially for chronic conditions such as diabetes and asthma. Without that care, treatable issues become major health threats.

The Hatcher Group’s clients include community primary-care providers, hospitals and public and private health agencies working to expand access to health care and improve treatment and services for those struggling with substance use or mental health challenges. Clients are taking new approaches to decreasing health care costs while achieving better results for patients; others are using holistic approaches to help patients lead healthier lives.
