Equitable access to high-quality learning

Too many U.S. students – from preschool to college – fail to learn the skills necessary to succeed in an increasingly competitive global economy:

  • 32 % of U.S. 8th graders are proficient in math.
  • 32.7 % U.S. 8th graders are proficient in reading.
  • Each year, more than 1 million students begin college with remediation
  • Double-digit gaps persist between the percentage of whites and of African-Americans and Latinos who graduate from college in four years.

America’s prosperity begins by giving all students – from preschool to college – equitable access to high-quality learning opportunities and the support they need to complete high school and higher education.
