The Hatcher Group Is Proud To Support The American Baseball Foundation (ABF), A Nonprofit Organization Based In Birmingham, Alabama, That For More Than A Decade Has Provided Free High-Quality Summer Learning Opportunities For Local Youths In Low-Income Communities.
ABF’s reading and math curriculum was designed by educators to help turn summer learning loss into summer learning gains. ABF makes summer learning fun and engaging by building its academic programs around structured sports activities including baseball and soccer.
ABF’s annual fundraiser was held January 21 in Birmingham and featured former New York Yankees pitcher Andy Pettitte, whose 18-year career included appearances in five World Series. Pettitte told youngsters in the crowd to work hard, fight through adversity and learn from coaches, teachers and other role positive models.
Pettitte shared the stage with this year’s ABF scholarship winner, a local high school senior who now volunteers as an ABF camp counselor. She told a crowd of 400 supporters that when she was a young ABF camper, “I’d go home at the end of [ABF] camp sad because I didn’t have anything else to do the rest of the summer.”
“The American Baseball Foundation is seeing great results with children who have few other options during the summer to continue learning and having fun in organized settings. We are proud to partner with such a great cause,” said Robert Johnston, senior vice president for The Hatcher Group and member of the ABF Board of Directors.
