TURNING FOOD WASTE INTO HUNGER RELIEF

Overview


Nourish Now is a nonprofit food bank operating under the mission to solve food waste and hunger simultaneously by recovering surplus food and redistributing it to low-income Maryland residents. Facing insufficient media coverage of this vital work, Nourish Now turned to The Hatcher Group in 2013 to get the word out.

Our Strategy


The Hatcher Group focused on elevating Nourish Now’s work to the national level in an effort to increase visibility and funding and expand its services to a broader population of Marylanders in need. We:

  • Built lists of contact information for targeted reporters at local and national media outlets covering poverty and the food industry
  • Wrote media advisories and press releases and pitched stories about Nourish Now’s important work to feed D.C. metro-area families, especially during the 2013 government shutdown
  • Designed and edited content for Nourish Now’s monthly newsletter
  • Helped to coordinate and execute Nourish Now’s yearly fundraising event

Our Impact


  • The Hatcher Group successfully secured coverage for Nourish Now:
    • In The Washington Post;
    • In Cooking Light magazine; and,
    • On nationally televised networks ABC and CBS
  • We helped to secure $10,000 in funding and an endorsement from celebrity actor Chris Noth
