CASE STUDY: PUBLIC HEALTH & WELLNESS
Behavioral Health System Baltimore
Senior Opioid Campaign
The Challenge
Behavioral Health System Baltimore (BHSB) and the Baltimore City Health Department wanted to develop messages about opioid misuse specifically for seniors – as a growing number of older adults are dying from opioid overdoses. But, many seniors don’t think of themselves as being at risk of abusing opioids.

Our Strategy
We coordinated with the Health Department for two rounds of feedback with focus groups at two senior centers. Based on this feedback, we focused our messaging on helping seniors to be more proactive around their pain management options. And, we also developed a message about safe disposal of opioids – a need that came out of the second round of focus groups, as several participants had unused opioids at home.

Our Impact
The Health Department disseminated our messages and artwork through posters, a PSA and ad buys.
