Senior Director/Vice President

The Hatcher Group seeks to hire a talented senior communications and marketing professional with relevant content and policy experience to help manage and support projects for our K-12 and higher education sector. The ideal candidate is a meticulous project manager, effective communicator, and purpose-driven team player who is passionate about advancing clients’ missions.

Hatcher leads strategic communications, advocacy, and marketing campaigns for foundations, nonprofit organizations and coalitions, state and federal agencies, institutions of higher education. We embrace work that expands educational opportunity and spurs actions that lead to real change.

The successful applicant will work directly with clients and lead collaborative teams that develop and implement a wide range of communications and marketing strategies, plans, and tools. The role is ideal for the seasoned communications professional with agency experience or content background in K-12 and/or higher education. This person will work closely with leadership to meet the needs of existing clients and help cultivate new opportunities. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Lead a portfolio of education clients.
  • Supervise project teams to deliver high-quality products on time and on budget.
  • Provide subject-matter expertise and tactical leadership in communications and marketing.
  • Support business development activities, including proposal development, thought leadership, and networking.
  • Develop and implement strategic marketing and communications plans that advance clients’ goals through earned and paid media, social media, events, and other tactics.
  • Write and edit content, including press releases, media advisories and other materials, identify media prospects, and pitch media outlets.
  • Lead client-facing strategy sessions, workshops, and other presentations.
  • Coordinate with creative, graphic design, and video teams to create high-caliber materials.
  • Coordinate with digital team to develop and implement effective social and digital media strategies.
  • Contribute positively to a team environment rooted in the firm’s core values and upholding our community guidelines.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • 12+ years of relevant experience, including managing staff and leading teams, preferably at an agency (nonprofit clients desired, but not required).
  • Excellent client-management skills and ability to manage multiple projects.
  • Outstanding writing skills and expertise in different types of writing, including reports, press releases, blog posts, social media posts, and policy-focused documents; familiarity with AP Style conventions.
  • Demonstrated experience developing messaging and/or marketing and outreach campaigns.
  • Experience in communications involving education policy, practice, or advocacy.
  • Ability to translate complex policy and data for professional and mainstream audiences.
  • Demonstrated track record of creating and implementing effective campaigns.
  • Experience with media relations and ability to generate press coverage for clients.
  • Ability to manage and mentor junior staff.
  • Experience and interest in networking and pursuing new business.

Hatcher is currently fully remote, with a flexible workplace policy. The preferred location is within reasonable commuting distance to any of our office locations in Bethesda, Baltimore, or Annapolis for occasional in-person collaboration.
