Jim Baird has advised senior NGO leaders, government officials, and military officers on advocacy and strategic communications at the state, national, and international level for more than 15 years. At Hatcher, Jim works with a diverse cohort of NGO clients and coalitions.
Prior to joining Hatcher, Jim served as ReThink Media’s Managing Director, where he advised NGO leaders and coalitions on a wide range of security issues, including: Iran, North Korea, arms control and nonproliferation, oversight and accountability of the U.S. drone program, and defense budgeting. He oversaw national and international earned media campaigns, and led ReThink’s efforts to train thought leaders for broadcast television appearances, writing and placing op-eds, effective storytelling, and Hill communications. Prior to ReThink, Jim served as Communications Director at the Stimson Center, a leading global affairs think tank. Jim oversaw the increase of the Center’s profile and media footprint to record levels in the organization’s 29-year history. He spearheaded the re-branding and strategic communications planning of the organization, while executing the rollout of a dozen major reports, and 50 on the record public events annually. During his tenure, the University of Pennsylvania ranked Stimson No. 20 out of 1800 U.S. think tanks for its impact, and the Center received global recognition for its advocacy efforts and use of digital media.
Jim is an editor for Inkstick Media. He served as a foreign policy advisor for Pete Buttigeig’s 2020 presidential campaign. Jim has also written extensively as a sports journalist covering college football for Sporting News, among other outlets.
He holds a masters of science in politics and communication from The London School of Economics, and a bachelor’s in journalism and political science from Ohio State. He lives in Annapolis with his wife Tabitha and son John.
