Millions of Americans live near or below the poverty line. But research, news, and real-world solutions to the issues facing them were not easily accessible and often got lost in partisan politics.
Spotlight on Poverty and Opportunity is a nonpartisan initiative that brings together diverse perspectives from the political, policy, advocacy and foundation communities to find genuine solutions to poverty and economic mobility. The Hatcher Group oversees a weekly e-newsletter that reaches more than 9,000 subscribers; coordinates outreach to media on key issues; and manages national Spotlight-sponsored events on issues ranging from the impact of poverty on the 2016 elections to the success of local anti-poverty measures.
Since its 2007 launch, Spotlight has earned a reputation as a “big tent” for ideas and solutions, attracting interest from public figures who contribute commentaries to the website and rely on Spotlight as a one-stop shop on poverty and opportunity. Spotlight’s 1.7 million page views in 2015 and 20,000+ Twitter followers speak to its value to the anti-poverty community.
