Matt is a seasoned digital communications executive with over 20 years of experience in strategic communications, advocacy, and technology-driven public sector solutions. At the Hatcher Group, he is focused on the growth and development of the firm’s digital offerings, integrating innovative solutions into their existing suite of communications services to build a robust digital toolkit.
Matt has an entrepreneurial spirit highlighted by his past experiences. Matt Co-founded and oversaw an acquisition of SociallyMined, a boutique digital agency leveraging analytics to deliver content and engage with target audiences. As CEO of SociallyMined, he utilized Big Data and unique algorithms to effectively micro-target relevant audiences with a targeted message. He worked closely with notable brands, government agencies, non-profits, professional athletes, celebrities, and sports franchises to assist with branding, reputation repair, and crisis communications.
Previously, Matt founded and served as Managing Partner of Union Square Strategic, a public affairs consultancy. In his role he focused on strategic communications and public sector procurement, positioning his clients for large-scale government contracts.
In addition, Matt opened and managed the Washington DC office of the Liberty Square Group, a Boston-based strategic communications firm, where he served as Senior Vice President for four-plus years. Formerly, Matt spent eight years as Director of Federal Affairs at the largest independent lobbying firm in Washington, DC, Van Scoyoc Associates.
Matt began his career in the White House West Wing serving the Clinton Administration’s Political Director. In his role he developed political landscape briefings for members of the Cabinet and served as a link between the Executive Office of the President and elected officials nationwide.
Matt is a graduate of Wheaton College in Norton, Massachusetts and attended graduate school at Georgetown University. He has been appointed to several boards, including the Homeland Security Foundation of America, Screening for Mental Health, and VoltaHive. Matt lives in National Harbor, MD and, as a Massachusetts native, is a die-hard Boston sports fan.
