Michael Mershon

Senior Vice President

Michael Mershon has more than 20 years of experience in political communications, strategy and advocacy and works on major initiatives and clients focused on poverty and education, including Spotlight on Poverty and Opportunity and the Edna McConnell Clark Foundation.

Prior to joining The Hatcher Group, he served as director of advocacy and communications at Sojourners, a leading faith-based social justice advocacy organization in Washington.  He began his career as an intern in the office of U.S. Senator Edward M. Kennedy (D-MA), where he rose to assistant press secretary.  He then spent 17 years as press secretary and senior advisor to U.S. Rep. Jim McGovern (D-MA).

A graduate of University of Chicago, Michael lives in Bethesda with his wife, Alicia Jennings, director of coverage for CNN Washington, and their two children.  He is active in the Episcopal Church of the Redeemer in Bethesda.
