Same Mission, New Perspective: Growing the Next Generation of Black Leaders

By Devin Simpson, Associate Director

Equity is a foundational principle at Hatcher and for the clients we support. Our clients fight daily to break down barriers that continue to marginalize Black communities and communities of color across the country. That often means carving out their own spaces within institutions to grow and advance — which is exactly what the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation (CBCF) strives to do.

Since 1976, CBCF’s mission has been to uplift the global Black community by developing the next generation of Black leaders, informing public policy, and educating the public. CBCF’s flagship program, the Leadership Institute, places young Black professionals in fellowships and internships on Capitol Hill and in corporate America — spaces that historically have excluded Black Americans.

Hatcher proudly partners with CBCF to support its strategic communications, digital media, multimedia production, and design efforts. In the spring of 2021, Hatcher extensively analyzed CBCF’s brand, website, and digital and communications strategies. We developed a new research-informed visual identity that offered an innovative twist on CBCF’s work. CBCF’s new logo, inspired by the architecture of the U.S. Capitol Rotunda’s eye, is representative of reaching the highest point. For CBCF, that means advancing excellence and leadership within the Black community. The logo not only depicts an updated perspective on CBCF’s mission, but also offers a unique view of the Capitol that sets the organization apart.

Based on the new brand, we developed a user-friendly and visually appealing website and crafted a new tagline to align with the brand, “Lifting Up. Leading Forward.” The motivational tagline signifies CBCF’s endeavor to grow and nourish young Black leaders and professionals and uplift the Black community.

With a strong foundation and a new brand in place, Hatcher is honored to continue our partnership with CBCF as it ushers in new leadership in 2022 and cements the foundation as a go-to voice and leader on racial equity.
