This year, Hatcher’s own Senior Vice President and Creative Director, Reece Quiñones, was named one of Graphic Design USA’s 2021 People to Watch. Each year, Graphic Design USA (GDUSA) identifies, selects, and invites the most talented creatives across America into an elite club. Within Hatcher and beyond, Reece’s work represents creativity in practice and is emblematic of GDUSA’s primary tenets: talent, success, leadership, influence, and community service.
Not only has Reece creatively amplified the work of her clients, she has also inspired and galvanized the team of designers around her to use design as a vehicle for change. Upon receiving her honor from GDUSA, Reece emphasized, “In our daily roles, graphic designers have always had the ability to visually break down racial barriers and biases. 2020 sparked a fire in so many of us to be the change. I hope that in the years to come, more designers join the call.”
Reece was also recently recognized as an AIGA-DC Fellow Award recipient, which is the highest honor a designer can receive. The Fellow Award recognizes designers who have made a significant contribution to raising the standards of excellence in practice and conduct while also making contributions through educating, mentoring, writing, and volunteering. Reece is one of three recipients from the D.C. metro area honored with this award in the past decade. Reece is transforming the design community at-large, while also serving as a pillar of excellence within the Hatcher community, continuously encouraging her design colleagues she manages and mentors to reach new heights.
As an award-winning creative, Reece has transformed integrative campaigns, across channels, through her creative processes. Upon receiving the title of AIGA Fellow, she stated, “What an amazing honor! As designers, we must think more deeply and broadly about the hardest challenges facing our world — race, equity, opportunity, democracy, education, and public health — and use our power to inform, connect, persuade, influence, and engage. Through visual communications, designers have a powerful voice in speaking with and for those who have not yet been heard.”
Spanning from advertising and marketing to video and production development, Reece works with diverse client teams to help them realize and articulate their vision in visually compelling ways. At Hatcher, Reece strategizes and manages integrated campaigns across all channels, applying the creative process from conception to completion. With Hatcher’s full-service design team, Reece delivers results-driven creative, business, and marketing solutions to clients on various projects including publication, logos and brand management, advertising and marketing, product development, web design, user experience, interactive/motion, environmental signage, custom illustration and iconography, infographic, and social media design. Reece’s talented hands touch almost all aspects of the firm’s work, including clients such as America’s Promise Alliance, College of Southern Maryland, Aspen Institute, Baltimore City Community College, Maryland 529, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. She received a bachelor’s degree in art from the University of Maryland, an MFA in Integrated Design from the University of Baltimore, and an MBA from the University of Maryland Global Campus.
Enhancing her role at Hatcher, Reece is an adjunct professor of design at George Mason University, where she also mentors design students. She is a long-standing committee member of the AIGA DC Design Continuum Fund, a merit-based scholarship developed for minority and economically disadvantaged students studying art and design in the Washington, D.C. region.
